The water carving process reminds me of the batiked eggshells I used to make. It involves drawing or painting a design with a wax resist on bone-dry clay and then using a wet sponge to gently wipe away the surrounding clay. The design emerges as a layered piece that is enhanced by the choice of glaze. I am particularly enamored of the ethereal transparency of clear celadon green.
